Margaret Webb is an award-winning writer, author, journalist, screenwriter, editor and university instructor based in Toronto, Canada.

She is also a good food advocate and avid long-distance runner.

Her nonfiction book, Apples to Oysters: A Food Lover’s Tour of Canadian Farms (Penguin, 2008) won a silver in the Cuisine Canada National Culinary Book Awards and was short-listed for an Evergreen Award. She has spoken widely about local, sustainable food systems on television and radio and at conferences and events.

Her first feature screenplay, Margarita, was shot in Toronto in 2010 and will premiere at fesitval screens in 2012. She won a screenwriting fellowship at Walt Disney Studios and was both a film and TV resident at the Canadian Film Centre.

She is currently at work on nonfiction book about running (for D&M) and a novel about teens navigating life and love in a very bad food future. Her nonfiction and fiction have earned several Toronto, Ontario and Canada arts council grants as well as a CIHR fellowship.

Her magazine and newspaper articles have appeared in Canada’s leading publications: Globe and Mail, Toronto Star, Toronto Life, More Magazine, Canadian Geographic, Chatelaine, Saturday Night etc. In 2009, she wrote a nine-part feature series for The Toronto Star, entitled “Crisis on the Farm.” She writes about running, sports, food, farming, food policy, adventure travel, culture, business, and personal memoir.

She won a Kenneth R. Wilson national business magazine award (for profile writing); CASE awards (best articles); and Northern Lights Award (travel writing) and been nominated for several national magazine awards, for both writing and editing.

Previously, she was editor of On Nature (then Seasons); managing editor of enRoute Magazine and TO Magazine; senior editor/writer at Vista Magazine and associate editor of Toronto Business Magazine.

Margaret grew up just outside of Barrie, On, graduated from the University of Toronto and earned an MA from Concordia University. She teaches magazine writing at Ryerson University and is a volunteer coach with Start2Finish’s Running & Reading program at Regent Park Public school.
